STUART GRAY WINS BLUE CHALLENGE DESPITE LATE SURGE FROM JOEY FOSTER.
It had to happen at some point! The fantastic hot weather of the summer finally came to an end at the last round of the BLUE Challenge held at the Llandow circuit on 13th September, it rained solidly for 24 hours.
Joey Foster managed the conditions best securing Pole position from Max Gunter with Sturart Gray and James Dawkins on Row two, Nigel vickery and Mike Bell sat on row three.
A few racers were unable to cleanly leave the dummy grid for the start of the Final resulting in an extra rolling lap. From the race start Foster made his intention clear by forging into the lead. A lead he was never to lose! Behind, Vickery had made a meteoric start forging into 2nd place. It was a place he would hold to the end, enjoying his ‘race of the year’. Jeff Elliss, having started on row four, gradually made his way forward, up to position three, by lap three. In doing so, he gave MAC Karts a lock-out on the podium. Gunter, having spun on lap one, gradually worked his way back through the race order to finish a creditable 4th. Gray was not having the best of races, slipping down the field to finish 6th, with Mike Bell passing him for 5th, on the penultimate lap.
In the end it was Stuart Gray who held on to win the Series by 6 points from Joey Foster. Bell finished 3rd, losing out by 3 points. Max Gunter Claimed 4th overall from Nigel Vickery who jumped from 7th to 5th, following this last round.
Gray also took the Master title from Foster but by a wider margin of 11 points. Bell, Gunter and Vickery claimed positions three to Five.
Gray, by virtue of a pole to flag result, also took the Veteran title from Vickery, followed by Ron Shone, Mark Ellis and Graham Joseph.
To conclude the clean sweep, Gray claimed the Legend sub-class with Shone, Ellis, Joseph and Waldron bringing up the top five.
Despite coming off in the wet conditions in the Final, Phil Waters had scored enough points in the Top Weight sub-section to take the Championship from Tom Parker, with Shone, Alex Fortune and Gunter taking the next three places.
Danny Elson won the Junior Blue race, confirming the Junior Challenge victory from Harley Drake in 2nd.
Elson will shortly be racing in with the Seniors having reached his 16th Birthday!
With the BLUE Challenge now over, the next outing available to Junior & Formula BLUE competitiors takes place at Clay Pigeon Raceway on Saturday 26th September for the penultimate 2 Counties Club and TnT Championship round.
