The competition for the Formula BLUE ‘O’ plates took place at the Lydd International Raceway on 5th April. Stuart Gray from Scotland, had the furthest to travel in order to reach Lydd, located on the coast in the south east of England. He arrived several days early and put in a serious amount of testing. It paid off because he ended the day having qualified on pole and after 15 grueling laps took the chequered flag victorious. Even a little drizzle midway through the Final didn’t phase him, he maintained his rapid pace throughout ! Not content with winning the open age categaory he also claimed the sub-class ‘0’ Plate categories, Master ( over 30 years), Veteran ( over 45 yers) and Legend ( over 60 years).
The Top Weight ( over 90 kg) sub-group was won by newbie Phil Waters, on his first outing in Formula BLUE. Phil qualified 3rd on the grid but took the flag ahead of Leanne McShane to win by 1 point.
Danny Elson in Junior BLUE had a spectacular day. Racing in with the Seniors, he qualified 5th on the grid for the Final and was in the leading group when sliding off as the drizzle hit the race, never the less he wins the Junior ‘0’ plate.
