Russell races into the lead
A beautiful sunny day greeted the competitors for round 2 of the Two Counties Club Championship, held at the Clay Pigeon Raceway on Saturday 25th April.
After an impressive 3 heats, Max Gunter sat in Pole position, with Russell O’Neill alongside. Row 2 was occupied by Mike Bell and Hannah Dawkins.
From the lights, Gunter took the lead pressed, in turn, by O’Neill and Bell. A sheared throttle shaft eventually put paid to Gunter’s race, leaving O’Neill to change his concentration from the Kart in front to the Kart behind ! He kept his composure and remained in front to the chequered flag, taking a well deserved win with Bell right behind. Nigel Vickery finished 3rd, racing ‘rich’ on his carberettor setting to ensure there would not be any issues. O’Neill now takes over the Championship lead by 3 points from Bell with Ron Shone and Vickery sharing 3rd place.
All the contestants in the Master sub-class also featured in the open class and therefore the results were identical, with O’Neill in the lead followed by Bell, Shone and Vickery.
In the Veteran sub-group, Shone and Vickery share the overall lead with the same points and drop option.
Shone leads the Legend sub-class unapposed.
Shone & Gunter shared the points on the day in the Top Weight section, though it is Shone who has a clear lead in the overall Championship positions.
The next round for the Two Counties Club Championship is on Saturday 25th July.
