2 COUNTIES – ROUND 1 AT CLAY PIGEON ON MAY 14th 2023 – RESULTS
19.05.23Formula Blue, Joey Foster won the Final followed by Dave Watts, Paul Alexander, Kieran Quirke and Steve Groves. Anthony Cleal held the lead, until an incident with a lapped driver dropped him down to 7th place. It is Watts, however, who takes the Championship lead with 5 points and Foster fits into 2nd place with 6 points. The next 3 racers all share 7-points namely, Cleal, Alexander and Groves.
Foster also won the Master sub-class from Alexander then Groves and a rejuvenated Robin Stoddart-Stones came in 4th, followed by Cleal. Foster with 4 points from a 4th start place and flag win takes the overall lead. Only 1 point adrift, three drives share 2nd place with 5 points each, namely Cleal, Alexander and Groves. Stoddart-Stones sits behind them in 5th.
In the Veteran sub-group, Alexander came home 1st followed by Groves, Stoddart-Stones, Cleal and Rob Mortimore. Alexander also leads the Championship with 3 points, from Cleal and Groves on 4 points, Stoddart-Stones is in 4th on 7 points and Mortimore shares 5th with Kevin O’Neill, both on 11 points.
Stoddart-Stones, with a clean sweep in points, wins the Legend section and leads the Championship. O’Neill finished 2nd and also sits in 2nd place overall. Chris Underhill takes up 3rd slot in front of John Hartshorne and Chris Lord.
Alexander with a win and 0 points overall heads the Top Weight sub-class. Last year’s Champion, Mortimore sits in 2nd place on 4 points, with Stuart Adam in 3rd position on 6 points.
The drivers contesting the Two Counties Club Championship now have a 7-week break before round 2 at the Forest Edge circuit. However, the next race for most of them will be on June 11th at the Lydd International Raceway for the next round of the NKRA Regional and Blue Challenge Championship.
Despite collision in the Final, Cleal maintains the lead in the TABOR Championship
15.05.23Joey Foster wins the Blue Final at Clay Pigeon in May, promoting himself up to 2nd place in the TABOR Championship. Robin Stoddart-Stones had a superb day, finishing second, despite having to start last in every heat due to a late entry. Just behind was Anthony Cleal who was in the lead until a back-marker incident demoted him a few places. Fourth on the day was Rob Mortimore with Kevin O’Neill 5th. The overall positions now show Cleal, still in the lead, with Foster closed up in second and Mortimore in third.
Alex Kepm, missing this round, slips to 4th ahead of Mike Bell who was also absent.
Competitors now have a month break with the next scoring round at Lydd on June 11th.

SMITHSON RECOVERS TO TAKE THE LEAD IN THE NKRA FORMULA BLUE CHAMPIONSHIP
03.05.23Round 4 of the NKRA BLUE CHALLENGE took place on April 30th at Mansell Raceway in Devon. The forecast showed rain all Sunday and certainly, the 1st head was wet. Thereafter, the day dried up and although rain sometimes threatened it never appeared!
Devon Giles scored another uncontested victory in Cadet HONDA.
Junior BLUE is gradually recovering from the issues which did the grid so much damage at the end of 2022. Another novice, Jack Gillitt, joined the grid for the first time and enjoyed his day, getting better and better with each outing. Alfie Lenton and Rudie Winslow-Morten shared the win on points though it was Lenton who claimed the Final, with Winslow-Mortone a mere 0.13 behind at the flag. Lenton maintains his lead in the Challenge from Winslow -Morten.
In the Formula BLUE class it was, returnee from injury, Joey Foster who won the day on 2 points with an opposite pole and Final win. Second overall was Paul Alexander with 6 points, who scored 3rd position on both the Final Grid and the Final race. Third overall was Anthony Cleal on 7 points with a pole and 7th place finish in the Final. In the Championship placings, it is Harry Smithson who takes over the lead with 19 points, by the smallest of margins ( 1 point) from Cleal. Third in the Championship is Mike Bell ahead of David Waldron and Alex Kemp.
In the Master sub-class, Foster wins the day with 2 points, just ahead of Cleal with 3 points. Alexander, on 5 points finishes 3rd. Cleal leads the standing from Waldron, Kemp, Alexander and Steve Groves.
Cleal and Alexander share the win in the Veteran sub-group with 2 points apiece. Rob Mortimore coming in 3rd with 7 points. In the overall position, Cleal maintains the leads from Waldron, Alexander, Groves and Mortimore.
Chris Underhill, with 3 points, takes the day in the Legend section with John Hartshorne in second with 5 points. Ron Shone and Robin Stoddart-Stones are equal third on 6 points. Hartshorne now takes the Championship Lead on 13 points followed by Shone on 16 points. Stoddart-Stones sits in 3rd place with Stuart Gray and Underhill in 4th and 5th position.
Paul Alexander wins the Top Weight section with a 0-point clean sweep from Mortimore with 4 points and Shone with 6 points. Overall, it is Waldron, using up his drop option, in the lead on 4 points from Mortimore on 15 points and Shone on 21 points. 4th and 5th positions are filled by Alexander and Tom Parker.
The NKRA Championship now takes a well-earned break until June 11th at Lydd Circuit in Kent. Many of the BLUE competitors will, however, continue their racing year with the Two Counties Club Championship opening round at the Clay Pigeon Raceway on May 14th.

FOSTER RECOVERS FROM INJURY TO WIN AT MANSELL
01.05.23Joey Foster recovers from previous injuries to win the Mansell round of the TABOR CHAMPIONSHIP. It is Anthony Cleal, however, who maintains the overall lead from Alex Kemp and Rob Mortimore, with Foster rising up to 4th from 6th.
The next scoring round is at Clay Pigeon on the 13th and 14th of May, for the Wessex Championship and Round 1 of the Two Counties Club Championship.

ENTRIES FOR CLAY PIGEON ON 13th & 14th MAY 2023
14.04.23Competitors are advised that entries are now open for the OPENING ROUND OF THE 2 COUNTIES CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP and THE WESSEX CHAMPIONSHIP on May 13th & 14th at the Clay Pigeon Raceway. There will be practice for those who wish, on Friday 12th May. The Saturday & Sunday races can be entered on the Clay Pigeon Kart Club website link. The link for entries is also at the foot of this news brief.
The entry list for Junior & Formula Blue will close at midnight, on Saturday 6th May. Late entries may be accepted, however, they will be placed on the back of the grid for all heats.

NKRA BLUE CHALLENGE ROUND 3 RESULTS FROM LYDD
12.04.23A returning Rudie Winslow-Morten won round 3 of the NKRA Junior BLUE Challenge at Lydd. His pole and win in the Final gave him both the round win plus the Junior Blue ‘O’ plate. Second, on the day but still retaining the overall series lead was Alfie Lenton.
In the formula BLUE class, the day goes to Dave Watts with a Pole position and 2nd place in the Final. He also retains the ‘O’ plate title! The actual Final winner was Stuart Gray, who finished 2nd overall due to his 3rd place start grid. Last month’s first-round winner, Harry Smithson, finished 3rd overall with 5 points and the current number one driver, Anthony Cleal, finished 4th with 8 points. Gray claimed the Master, Veteran and Legend sub-section ‘O’ plates, with Dave Waldron taking the Top Weight ‘o’ plate trophy.
The Championship now moves on to Mansell Raceway, in Devon, for Round 4 at the end of April.

CLEAL, KEMP & MORTIMORE forge forwards in the Tabor Champs
11.04.23Anthony Cleal, Alex Kemp and Rob Mortimore forge forwards in the TABOR Championship by scoring the top three sets of points available at the Lydd International Raceway in Kent.
The next scoring round is at Mansell Raceway on 30th April.
