Despite an incident in the Final of the Cadet Honda grid, Devon Giles picked up minimum points and remails in the lead in the Cadet HONDA Class.
All the Junior Blue’s were present at Mansell for this 3rd round of the Championship. It was Sam Mitchell who won from Pole thereby scoring 0 points and snatching the overall lead in the Championship from Rhys Read.
Rhys tried everything possible to force Sam into a mistake in the Final but had to settle for a creditable 2nd place. 3rd on the Day was Ben Gillitt, capitalising on the misfortune of Jamie Bradfield, as his spark plug worked loose during the race. Jamie does, however, maintain 3rd place in the Championship.
The top two in the Formula BLUE senior Class, Dave Watts and Anthony Cleal, shared the day’s top points with Mike Bell , Tom Parker and Sylvain Vessier filling the rest of the top 5 spots. In the Championship, it is Watts who leads Cleal, Joey Foster, Bell and Kieron Quirke.
Cleal took a clean sweep of Pole and Win in the BLUE Master sub-group. The surprise package was Chris Lord, finishing 2nd on 6 points. Nigel Vickery came in 3rd, just 1 point behind. Steve Groves came home 4th, also only 1 point behind Vickery. David Waldron, having overcome his demons of competing at the track where he had his bad accident at the end of last year, finished in 5th place. Cleal maintains his lead in the Championship followed by Joey Foster, using up his points drop option. Vickery sits in 3rd spot with Waldon moving up to 4th. the big climber of the day was Lord, going from 12th to 5th, starting his intention for the rest of the Championship.
Cleal, again, takes the win in the BLUE Veteran sub-class. Followed by Lord, Vickery, Groves and Waldron. Cleal also heads the Championship from Vickery, Waldron, Lord and Paul Alexander.
The stunning weekend’s performance by Lord gave him a clear lights to flag win in the Blue Legend section. David Goode, fresh back from an Easter break took 2nd result, followed by Ron Shone and Chris Underhill. It is Underhill, however, who leads the Championship from Lord, albeit only by a better points drop option.
The BLUE Top Weight sub-class was the total domain of Tom Parker, winning from Ron shone. 3rd place was shared by Rob Mortimore and Phil Shears with John Hartshorne in 5th position. Overall it is Parker who takes the Championship lead, followed by Mortimore, Shears, Joseph and Shone.
The Championship now moves back to the Clay Pigeon Circuit for Round 4, on Sunday 8th May, practice day is on Friday, with the Wessex Championship event on Saturday.

Sam Mitchell ( Junior BLUE) wins in the TABOR CHAMPIONSHIP and moves up to 3rd overall.
Chris Lord ( Senior BLUE) comes in 2nd and promotes himself up to 11th equal, from 19th equal. 3rd on the day in the TABOR CHAMPS was Anthony Cleal who increases his overall lead by 1 point over Mike Bell, who came home 4th ahead of Tom Parker who finished 5th.
The next scoring round is at Clay Pigeon on 8th May.

Competitors are advised that entries are now open for the NKRA CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 4 and the WESSEX CHAMPIONSHIPS at the Clay Pigeon Raceway on May 7th & 8th 2022
There will be practice, for those who wish , on Friday May 6th.
The NKRA Championship Round will take place Sunday (8th) and the WESSEX CHAMPS on Saturday & Sunday May 7th & 8th.
The Saturday Race and the Sunday race can be entered for on the Clay Pigeon Club web link. The link for entries is also at the foot of this news brief. Friday practice is entered for at the circuit on the day.
The entry list for the NKRA Championship Round 4 (Junior & Formula BLUE) will close at midnight, on Saturday, April 30th. However, total numbers may reach the capped limit before the closing date. To ensure inclusion, all ‘Blue’ competitors are advised to enter the race forthwith.

Devon Giles, Rhys Read and David Watts lead the Southern NKRA Championship after round 2 at the Clay Pigeon Raceway on April 10th.
Giles was unopposed at the Clay Pigeon circuit and takes the lead in the Cadet HONDA Class.
In Junior BLUE it was Sam Mitchell who won the day but it is Rhys Read who leads the Championship, by virtue of a better drop option, over Mitchell.
David Watts scored minimum points in his lights to flag win in Formula BLUE. This has allowed him to take the series lead over his nearest rival, Stuart Gray, also by virtue of a superior drop option. 3rd in the Championship is Anthony Cleal, last year’s winner.
Cleal, however, won both the Master and Veteran sub-classes placing him in the lead over Gray. Joey Foster is currently 3rd in the Master’s, with Nigel Vickery 3rd in the Veterans.
Another minimum points score, this time in the Legend subgroup, put Chris Underhill at the front of the points chart. He ties with Gray but takes the lead by virtue of his superior drop option. 3rd overall is Robin Stoddart-Stones.
The last subclass, BLUE Top Weight, saw Rob Mortimore emerge as the section leader ahead of last year’s winner BenJoseph and Top Parker.
The contestants now have a 2-week break before round 3, which is scheduled for April 24th at Mansell Raceway in Devon.

Having won 2 of the 3 heats, Sam Mitchell secured Pole position for the Final from Rhys Read, who claimed the 3rd heat. The 2nd row was taken up by Jamie Bradfield and Jamie Dart.
From the ‘off’ Mitchell snatched the lead closely followed by Read, Bradfield and Dart. Positions remained the same for 4 laps with all the competitors in close order. Then Read made a move on Mitchell at the exit from the hairpin. The two were momentarily locked together allowing Bradfield to slip by both into the lead. He held the lead until lap 9 when Mitchell re-established himself at the front. There it stayed until the chequered flag, with Mitchell inching out his lead. Read tried all he could to pass Bradfield, but to no avail. Occasionally his efforts earned him a contact warning board but it was Bradfield who finished 2nd with Read 3rd and Dart 4th.
In the Seniors, it was Dave Watts who won 2 of the Heats with Anth Cleal winning the 3rd. These two took up the front row for the Final with Watts on Pole. Behind, sat Joey Foster on 3rd and Kieran Quirke on 4th. David Waldron and Nigel Vickery were positioned on row 3. Steve Groves and Paul Alexander on row 4 with Rob Mortimore and Mike Bell bringing up row 5. So there were 8 seeded drivers from last year in the top 10 grid positions.
Watts was ready for the lights change and took the lead followed by Cleal, Foster, Quitke and Waldron. By the end of lap one Serita shone had passed Bell for 10th place. Further back David Goode, in 14th had been ‘muscled ‘ off-line allowing Chris Lord, Phil Shears, Ben Joseph and Sylvian Vessier past. Somewhere in the opening incident, Stuart Gray accrued some damage causing his retirement.
Into lap 2 and the front three had created some ‘air’ between themselves and the chasing group, which was headed by Vickery. Back in 14th place, Joseph passed Shears followed by Vessier. Next lap and Bell was settling into his stride re-passing Serita. Joseph was now up to 13th position overtaking Stoddart-Stones. Again he was followed through by Vessier.
Lap 4 saw the faster drivers, who qualified well, forging forwards. Alexander and Bell passed Groves and Joseph accounted for Chris Underhill. Next lap and Joseph was past Mortimore and Vessier overtook Underhill.
Into lap 6 Alexander succumbed to pressure from Bell and Joseph. Vessier took another lap to pass Serita. Vessier continued his charge, followed by Serita and slipped past Mortimore. They were now in 11th and 12th place respectively.
Over the next 2 laps Vessier accounted for Mortimire followed, again by Serita . Lap 9 and Bell passed Waldron for 6th spot.
Half distance and the front three had broken away with Watts just clear in the lead from Cleal with Foster, a small distance adrift. Bell continued to charge and passed Vickery for 5th place. Joseph forced his way past Waldron thereby allowing Alexander to follow through. Behind Vessier overtook Steve Groves.
Into lap 11 and Joseph was up to 6th passing Vickery. Lap 12 spelled disaster for Alexander. Chasing Vickery and in passing lapped drivers, he chose the wrong side hoping to pull off a spectacular move. Unfortunately for him, it didn’t come off resulting in a trip to the barrier. Whist extracting himself, from the tyres the rest of the grid ‘sailed’ by. In the aftermath, Vessier moved up to 8th passing Waldron.
Over the last 8 laps, as the leaders came across drivers about to be lapped, the front 3 tried to capitalise on the situation by gauging how to get past without compromising their positions.
Lap 14 and Serita passed Groves and was now up to 10th position.
At 75 % race distance, Josephs’s charge came to an end as he rolled to the tack side. From 19th to 6th was quite an effort! Nos such bad luck for Vessier who passed Vickery as well as taking the position vacated by Joseph.
4 laps to go and the front 3 had closed right up each one pressing to try and force an error from the driver in front without giving space for a move from the man behind. On lap 17, novice Peter Staddon accounted for a re-started Alexander. With 3 laps to go Mortimore passed Groves whilst Shears slid by Robin Stoddart-Stones, who was having none of it and on the penultimate lap retook Shears.
Last lap and Watts led Cleal by the narrowest of margins, with Foster a few seconds adrift in a safe 3rd spot. In the mid-order, a tiring Groves lost several places and Shears was passed by Chris Lord and Alex Kemp.
So on to the chequered flag and a fine win for Dave Watts, thereby retaining his ‘0’ Plate from 2022. Cleal pushed him all the way finishing 0.3 seconds behind. 3rd was Joey foster with Kieran Quitke in 4th and Mike bell 5th over the line.
Once the points were been checked ( where you start plus where you finish added together) the various categories of ‘ o’ plate winners were announced.

A dominant points win by Joey Foster in the latest round of the TABOR Customer Championship has shot him up from equal 5th to equal 1st. He shares the top spot with Anth Cleal, both of them on 58 points. Second, on the day, was junior driver Sam Mitchell. His result promotes him from equal 11th up to 5th place and in line for £ 100, although the season is but young, with a long way to go. Rob Mortimore also scored well with 19 points moving him up to 4th position. Kevin O’Neill, previously in 2nd place, suffered by his non-attendance ( mistake on dates, regarding an organised trip abroad ! ) and slips down to equal 7th place.
The next scoring round is at Mansell Raceway on April 24th.

At the opening round of the NKRA & Formula Blue Championship held at Mansell Raceway on the weekend of the 27th March. Rhys Read showed a clean pair of heels to the rest of the Junior Blue grid winning all 3 Heats and Final in dominant fashion. On the day, it was only Rudie Winslow-Morten who managed to stay in contact, though never in a position to challenge, in 3rd position was Ben Gillit.
In the Senior Formula Blue grid, it was Stuart Gray, all the way from Edinburgh in Scotland, who showed the established grid the way home. Having secured pole position he then dominated the racing, although Anthony Cleal did work his way through to finish 0.07 seconds adrift. Joey Foster took a very credible 3rd place right right on the tail of the leading pair. Indeed only 0.29 of a second separated the first three drivers.
So, Gray won the day with 0 Championship points from Foster in 2nd on 5 points. Cleal and Mike Bell shared 3rd overall with 9 points. Dave Watts, Ben Joseph and Tom Parker tied for 5th place on 13 points.
The Master sub-class was won by Gray from Foster, Cleal, Joseph and Paul Alexander.
Gray also cleaned up in the veteran group from Cleal, Alexander, Nigel Vickery and David Goode.
To reinforce a totally dominant performance, Gray heads the Legend section from Chis Underhill, Goode, Kevin O’Neill and Chris Lord ( the first of the reserves).
The last sub-class, Blue Top Weight, was won by Joseph from Parker, Phil Shears, John Hartshorne and Ron Shone.
Following this fantastic opening round, the Blue racers have a fortnight before round 2 , at the Clay Pigeon Raceway, on April 10th. This meeting also encompasses the varying ‘0’ plates, so there will, no doubt, be some serious preparation going on !
