GRAY RETAINS THE LEAD IN THE FORMULA BLUE CHALLENGE
Following a stunning weekend’s racing at Dunkeswell, Stuart Gray scored minimum points with a Pole Position and win in the Final. His main rival, Mike Bell, suffered a broken radiator stay during the race but continued on racing one handed whilst supporting the radiator with the other hand. His heroism led to 7th place ( 5th overall), allowing him to maintain 2nd spot in the championship. Joey Foster had a sedate day, by his standards, finishing 2nd overall but climbing to 3rd place in the Championship. James Dawkins, having led for much of the Final, finished 2nd losing the lead on the penultimate lap. 4th overall, on the day, was Max Gunter with a 4th grid slot and 5th final result. Drive of the day ( outside of the front two) goes to Russell O’Neill who, having started 11th, climbed his way to 4th place, passing Gunter on the last lap.
The Master sub-class followed a similar pattern with Gray scoring zero points ahead of Foster on 5 points and Dawkins on 7 points. Bell and Gunter shared 4th place with 9 points apiece.
Gray was equally dominant in the Veteran section enjoying another clean sweep of Pole and Win. Chasing him in 2nd place, Nigel Vickery increased his lead over Ron Shone in 3rd spot.
The unstopable Gray also leads the Legend sub-group with yet another total minimum score. David Waldron finished 2nd on points and moves into 5th overall. Ron Shone finished 3rd on the day but maintains his 2nd place in the Championship. Despite a high day’s score, Mark Ellis keeps his 3rd overall position.
Phil Waters shared the overall points win with Tom Parker in the Top Weight sub-class, though it was Waters who crossed the finish line first. Alex fortune claimed 3rd overall on the day. With one round to go, Waters leads the Championship by 5 points from Parker, followed by Gunter, Shone and Fortune.
The Juniors shared the points, with Danny Elson gaining Pole but Harley Drake winning the Final. Overall, it is Elson in the Championship lead ahead of Drake.
Competitors now have 3 weeks before the final round of the Championship, which takes place at LLandow ( S.Wales). Drivers are reminded of Regulation 1.6.1 ‘ the last round carries a 100 point non-attendance penalty, which cannot be dropped’. Any new competitors, wanting to race at the Grande Finals in October, must have registered prior to the last regional round at LLandow.
The Dunkeswell round enjoyed an impressive entry, which in turn, led to some great racing. Llandow could and should see the same. See you there !
