TWO COUNTIES CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP – RESULTS ROUND 2

Posted on by Julie

After a two-month wait between rounds 1 & 2, the Two Counties programme was back in action again at the Forest Edge race circuit, on July 2nd, where a hot and sunny weekend awaited the competitors.

Devon Giles attended, securing top minimum points and keeping him in the lead of Cadet HONDA Class.
In Junior BLUE, Rudie Winslow -Morten’s father was ‘ on call’ over the weekend preventing his attendance. Alfie Lenton, despite carburettor issues during the heats, which were sorted for the Final, raced superbly with lap times well up into the Senior category. His minimum points win moves him into a clear lead in the Championship.

The Formula BLUE class was a real ‘whose who’ in the entrants’ list with only Kieran Quirke in the top 10 missing. The heats were fiercely contested with a few incidents along the way! The grid for the Final had series leader, Dave Watts, on P1 with Joey Foster alongside. Row 2 had Anthony Cleal and Paul Alexander with Row 3 being filled by Stuart Gray and Harry Smithson. The race itself was hard fought with positions changing every lap. Watts lead until the last lap, when Gray found a way past. Gray, however, incurred a ‘drop down’ front bumper time penalty in post-race scrutineering which demoted him out of the top three. In the end, it was a win for Watts over Smithson, Cleal, Gray and Foster. In the Club Championship itself, Watts slightly increases his lead, with Foster and Cleal running in equal 2nd. 4th is Alexander, over Steve Groves, albeit by virtue of a better drop option.

In the Master sub-group , Cleal takes the day with 2 points over Foster with 3 points. Gray with 6 points comes in 3rd spot, just ahead of Alexander with 7 points. David Waldron with a 7th start place and 5th over the line takes 5th place overall. Cleal takes the lead from Foster in the Championship standings, with Alexander in 3rd, Groves in 4th and Gray in 5th.

Cleal wins the Veteran section with minimum points from Gray, Alexander, Waldron and Robin Stoddart-Stones. Overall, Cleal sits in a dominant Series lead from Alexander, Groves, Gray and Stoddart-Stones.

Gray was unchallenged in the Legends sub-class. 2nd on the day was Stoddart-Stones followed by Kevin O’Neill and David Goode. It is Stoddart-Stones however, who holds the Championship lead by virtue of a better drop option over Gray. O’Neill slips to 3rd with Chris Underhill and David Goode in 4th & 5th.

Alexander wins the Top Weight section and remains in a clear lead in the Championship. 2nd on the day was Waldron, who moves up to 3rd overall. He is just bested in the standings by Rob Mortimore, who finished in 3rd spot on the day. 4th in the Championship is Stuart Adam.

The racers now have a 5-week break before round 3 of the Two Counties Club Championship, on August 6th, also at Forest Edge.
