SAM MITCHELL & ANTH CLEAL WIN NKRA JUNIOR & FORMULA BLUE CHALLENGES.

Posted on by Julie

Continuing on from the previous round, Sam Mitchell dominated the Junior Blue final round at Forest Edge. Scoring 0 points with a lights to flag win he claimed the reinstated Junior Blue Challenge 1st place overall. Behind him, Rhys Read took 2nd overall with Jamie Dart taking 3rd place.
In the Formula Blue class, Anthony Cleal also took a minimum of points to win. His win, however, was not uncontested! Taylor Waldron, back from University, pushed him all the way, finishing a mere 0.62 seconds behind. 3rd place on the day was Russell O’Neill on 6 points, with Ben Joseph 4th on 8 points. 5th overall was Billy Thomas on 12 points.
The drive of the day had to go to Rich Puddle who, having run-in on Saturday had a series of issues during the heats, not least of which was starting at the bak, a consequence of a late entry. In the Final, he started 17th and then stormed through to finish 5th with an equal fastest lap of the Final! In the Championship standings, Cleal is the clear victor. Mike Bell having DNF’d in the Final, lost the 2nd Series place to Russell O’Neill, with Ben Joseph snatching 3rd. Serita Shone finished 5th overall.
In the Blue Master sub-class, it was Anthony Cleal again the victor from Russell O’Neill and Ben Joseph, with Billy Thomas in 4th and Paul Alexander in 5th. the Championship win goes to Cleal from O’Neill, Joseph, Alexander with rob Mortimore finishing in 5th place.
Cleal again takes the Blue Veteran group from Alexander and Mortimore. David Goode finishes 4th by 1 point, with David Waldon 7 points adrift.
Goode did, however, take the Legend section, having led it for most of the year. 2nd overall goes to Kevin O’Neill from Ron Shone.
Ben Joseph was in stunning form in the Blue Top Weight sub-class, winning both the Final plus the day with 0 points and the overall Championship on only 16 points, after 7 rounds. 2nd on the day was Billy Thomas, who secured 4th place in the Championship. Mortimore was 3rd on the day allowing him to become the Championship runner-up, from Ron Shone.

With the Blue Challenge completed, for this season, drivers have 5 weeks before the Grande Finals scheduled to be held at the Clay Pigeon Raceway on 10th October. Before then, however, is round 2 of the Two Counties Club Championships. this will take place on September 26th at Mansell Raceway.

SAM MITCHELL & ANTHONY CLEAL WIN THE PENULTIMATE BLUE CHALLENGE ROUND AT MANSELL.

Posted on by Julie

Sam Mitchell won, in dominant style, the Junior Blue Challenge round 7 at Mansell Raceway, on August 29th, with a Pole to Flag 0 points win. Rhys Read with 4 points finished 2nd and Josh Hibbard was 3rd on 6 points. With one round to go Mitchell now has an 11 points lead over Read with Jamie Dart in 3rd place overall.
Anthony Cleal in formula Blue also won with 0 points. 2nd was Ben Joseph on 5 points with another Welsh competitor Billy Thomas in 3rd, scoring 7 points. Several of the top half of the competition were unable to race due to recovering from minor surgery (non-karting related !). Sadly for Syvain Vessier, he had tested positive for Coronavirus in the week before and was unable to compete, we all wish Sylvain a full and speedy recovery. Front runners David Watts, Sam Dible and Rich Puddle did not enter and as a consequence have slid down the overall positions in the Championship.
Going into the Final round, Cleal has an unassailable lead ( attendance and exclusion permitting). Mike Bell has moved up into 2nd place followed by Russell O’Neill, Joseph and Serita shone.
In the Blue Master sub-section, Cleal takes the win on the day with zero points, Joseph was 2nd with 5 points. Russell O’Neill and Thomas claim equal 3rd spot with 7 points. In the standing, it is Cleal from O’Neill, Joseph, David Goode and Rob Mortimore.
Cleal, again, takes a zero point win in the Blue Veteran sub-class. Kevin O’Neill takes 2nd place on 5 points with Paul Alexander and David Waldron sharing 3rd spot with 9 points. David Goode came in 5th, 1 point behind.
Overall, Cleal remains in the lead followed by Goode, Alexander, Mortimore and David Waldron.
Kevin O’Neill was in stunning form in the Blue Legend group with a clear pole-to-flag win. 2nd place went to Goode on 4 points followed by Ron Shone on 6 points and Mark cook on 8 points. In the overall standings, Goode holds the lead by 7 points from O’Neill. Shone stays in 3rd place, 13 points adrift.
In the Blue Top Weight sub-class, Joseph won with Zero points followed by Thomas on 4 points. Mortimore and Shone finished equal 3rd on 7 points. It is Joseph who sits in the overall lead in the championship with Mortimore in 2nd position. Ron Shone remains in 3rd with Thomas and Paul Dible making up the top 5.
The Blue Challenge now moves on to Forest Edge for the Final Round of the Championship, at the Forest Edge Circuit, on September 5th. Pressure is on with only a 7 day, back-to-back, turnaround timetable. An added bit of pressure is the knowledge that there is a 100 point non-droppable penalty for non-attendance at this last round of the Championship.

BLUE CHALLENGE RESULTS AFTER FOREST EDGE IN AUGUST

Posted on by Julie

A clean pair of heels by Rhys Read gave him minimum points and the win in the Junior Blue sections of the Blue Challenge 2021. Mitch Carpenter suffered an exclusion for a carburettor rule infringement which dropped him down to 6th place overall. The Challenge lead stays with Sam Mitchell though Read has closed him down. Jamie Dart is promoted to 3rd overall.
Richard Puddle won the Formula Blue class but fell foul of a battery terminal issue at the post-race scrutineering and was duly excluded. Anth Cleal with an opposite pole start grid, together with a race win, won the day. Sam Dible with a pole and 2nd in the Final finished 2nd overall followed by Ben Joseph in 3rd. David Watts on 10 points came in 4th with Sylvain Vessier in 5th. Cleal now takes the Challenge lead by 1 point over David Watts. Mike Bell sits in 3rd place with Russell O’Neill and Ben Joseph bringing up the top 5.

Cleal, again, takes the win in the Veteran Sub-class. This time the challenge came from Stoddart-Stones in 2nd.
