Cleal Cleans up at the Final S & B Automotive Academy Blue Challenge Round and Duncan McLeod Wins the Series.
06.08.18Congratulations to all the drivers at Forest Edge for some fantastic racing at the Finale of the S & B Automotive Academy Blue Challenge Series.
Anthony Cleal dominated at Forest Edge. His pole to flag win secured him 2nd place in the Series. Second on the day was Jake Calvert, who with 5 points maintained his 3rd place in the Series. Third on the day was Mitch McLeod. His 8 points scored allowed him to hold off the Series Challenge of Toby Cook. Despite finishing 16th in the Final, Duncan McLeod won the overall S & B automotive Formula Blue Challenge by virtue of an untouchable points lead going into the final round.
Duncan McLeod also claimed three of the sub-classes, Master, Veteran & Top weight.
It is Cleal and Paul Dible who finish behind him, in the first two sub-groups and Mitch McLeod and Ben Pearson who take up the rest of the podium in the Top Weight group.
After a year-long battle, David Goode took the Legend title from Ron shone, who never looked like challenging David in this final round. Third was Kevin O’Neill who enjoyed one of his best races all year.
The drivers now have a month’s summer holiday break before the Grande Finals. These are scheduled for September 8th and 9th to take place at the Clay Pigeon Raceway in Dorset.

NKRA SOUTHERN REGION – 2018 Final Results & placings
11.07.18At the extremely hot weekend at Clay Pigeon Raceway on July 8th, the final placings were established.
In Cadet Honda, Colin Wazny and David Aulejtner came into this last round on equal points. Although it was Maksymilian Solarski who won the day, it was Wazny, by finishing ahead of Aulejtner, who took the title.
Ben Crossley was, once again unopposed in the Cadet IAME to take the class title.
In Minimax, Ollie Tyler sealed the Championship win from Maciej Hamera.
It was all change in formula Blue… a stunning display by Duncan McLeod, at this last round, allowed him to wrest the title away from Jake Calver, who lead going into the weekend. A similar brilliant drive from Anthony Cleal moved him up into 3rd spot, beating Ben Pearson by only 1 point. Toby Cook, who finished 3rd on the day, finished 5th overall with Russell O’Neill capturing the last series trophy in 6th spot.
William Robers, by virtue of a no-show of his fellow competitors, took the Rotax Max title.
The Grande Finals for Cadet Honda and Formula Blue take place at the Clay Pigeon circuit on the weekend of September 8 & 9th.
The Formula Blue class still have 1 Round of the S & B Automotive Challenge left, this takes place on the 5th August at Forest Edge Raceway.

McLeod Maintains Momentum
10.07.18An impressive set of race results by Duncan McLeod at the penultimate S & B Automotive Blue Challenge Round helped him to maintain his grip on the Series. It was not an easy affair as he turned his pole position in the Final into the lead. During the spectacular 22 lap race ( in sweltering hot conditions) at the Clay Pigeon Raceway he was harassed all the way by Anth Cleal ( who recorded the fasted time in the Final). Behind, Toby Cook sat, hoping for an incident between the front two, thereby allowing him to take the results ! As a consequence to this result , Duncan McLeod continues to head the list, but Anth Cleal moves up to 2nd overall. Jake Calvert remains in 3rd place , but Mitch McLeod slips to 4th place, just ahead of Toby Cook.
In the Master and Veteran groups, Duncan McLeod sits in the lead from Anth Cleal and Paul Dible.
Despite losing grid position in the Legends section, David Goode swept to the front of the race and thereby stayed 4 points ahead of Ron Shone, with one round to go.
In the Top weight sub-group, the all conquering Duncan McLeod forged further into the overall lead. Behind him Mitch McLeod remains in 2nd place, though Ben Pearson is closing him down.
The Final Round takes place at Forest Edge on the weekend of 5th August.

FORMULA BLUE RULES RE: MARKED PARTS
04.07.18Formula Blue is listed as a ‘box stock economy/club class’, As such the engine as raced, must be identical to the original and unmodified or unaltered in any way. This protects competitors from exorbitant parts costing the ‘earth’, and possible unscrupulous engine preparation by firms who use these modified parts and then charge well over the odds for alleged ‘ winning’ preparation. This also eliminates the need for indefinite periods of testing of each optional part as and when they are produced. There are various alternative ‘ free for all’ classes available to drivers where the ‘depth of their pocket’ is directly linked to success. This is not the intention of the Formula Blue Class!
In order to preserve equality of competition certain key regulations are in place to protect all racers. These are available on www.planetkarting.co.uk, race class info. menu tab; then Formula Blue drop down menu. Under Reg. FB1.4 it is stated ‘ the following parts must be marked and be sequentially numbered by TABOR: Cylinder, crankcase, clutch, clutch drum, ignition ( matched…) piston, ECU & Carburettor. It further states ‘ These sequentially marked numbers must be recorded with… TABOR prior to racing. All marked parts are checked prior to sale. This negates the often used standard response if ‘caught’ using a non-box stock standard part – “it came like that”. The sequential number, which is kept in a database, allows us to know who bought the part and to which engine it was fitted. All these controls allow us to eliminate the use of non-standard, performance enhancing parts and to help eliminate any ‘rogue ‘ engine parts/preparation from the supply chain.
Competitors or engine builders are required to submit these details at the time of purchase and/or fitment. Failure to do so will lead to exclusion at post-race scrutineering. Most, not all ( firms employed in engine work) comply with this requirement. It is, however, the competitors responsibility to ensure that this regulation is complied with, as it is they who will suffer the consequences of exclusion, if non-compliant.
It is absolutely essential that rules, when put in place, are then policed to ensure that competitors who comply, are not disadvantaged by racing against unregulated competition. Therefore, the scrutineering staff will be alerted to the requirement of declaring the sequentially numbered parts.

FORMULA BLUE ENGINE RULES – CLARIFICATION REGARDING CYLINDER BASE GASKET
29.06.18It has come to the attention of the class regulator that some engines may be in use, which do not conform with the class regulations. The Regulations are posted, as per Reg.FB1.12, on the www.planetkarting.co.uk., race class info. Menu tab, then Formula Blue drop down menu.
The following is stated –
Clarifications of regulations ( box stock class)
No engine modifications allowed whatsoever. All functions to be as designed and intended. Cylinder base gasket – IAME 0.4 ( 0.4 minimum). Unless it states that you can do it you cannot.
Under regulations FB1.4 – It states …. functions must remain in the condition as intended and designed. No other modifications or alterations are permitted …. The engine must be raced in standard form, as manufactured….The addition of material to any component is not allowed.
It may be the case that, in certain engines, more than one cylinder base gasket is being used, probably in an attempt to raise the cylinder port heights.
TO CLARIFY – The engines are in the box stock form, supplied assembled with one 0.4mm cylinder base gasket. This is exactly how the engines were manufactured to be used. The squish (piston/head clearance) is free to allow for drivers using castor based oils, which produce carbon deposits, not to fall foul of a minimum clearance requirement.
– The only cylinder base gasket allowed is the official IAME one of 0.4 mm thickness. In use, this gasket may, over a period of time, compress. Therefore a minimum of 0.3.mm is allowed for a correct but ‘used’ gasket. The ‘Guidelines and interpretations’ have been further clarified to eliminate any assumed vagaries and help ensure full complicity with the regulations.
