FORMULA BLUE CHALLENGE ROUND 4 RESULTS
15.05.19With the results of round 3 under investigation by the authorities, the challenge moved on to Clay Pigeon on 12th of May for round 4.
The weekend of this event was combined with the Wessex Championships.
The weather turned out to be superb, for the time of year, and BBQ equipment was used for the first time this season.
The racing was spectacular with, in the Final, the first six drivers achieving lap times within 0.11 of each other !! Indeed, within these six there were five different combinations of Engines/Restrictors as follows.
1st Maxi / Blue
2nd Lynx / Blue
3rd Lynx / Blue
4th Lynx / Black
5th Lynx / Green
6th Leopard / Blue
Pole position was gained by Toby Cook with Anth Cleal on P2. Third, on the grid, was Robin Stoddart-Stones with Taylor Waldron alongside.
Racing at the front was close, fast and competitive with the lead changing three times within the 18 lap Final. Cook took the lead until lap 3 when passed by Waldron, who in turn was passed by Cleal on lap 8. During the Final, with the front group locked together in racing combat, Cleal achieved the fastest time but Waldron & O’Neill scored fastest sector times. It couldn’t get any closer or indeed any better when racers weighing from 60 kg to 100 kg raced with such equality of power and output.
Once the rounds’ points were added to the ongoing total Cleal had re-taken the overall lead. Ben Pearson remained in 3rd with Cook and Mike Bell dramatically scaling the charts to 4th and 5th respectively.
In the sub-classes, Cleal retakes the lead in the Master group with Russell O’Neill in 3rd spot.
Cleal also heads the Veteran section with Stoddart-Stones leap-frogging into 3rd.
In the Legend sub-group, it is Stoddart-Stones who displaces David Goode for the lead.
Ben Pearson by virtue of his pole to flag win rises up to 2nd place in the Top Weight section.
The Challenge now moves on to Mansell Raceway on May 26th for Round 5.
