TWO COUNTIES
Formula BLUE: Matthew Percy Memorial – Martin Wheeler
Josh Cook, British Touring Car Driver, guests in Formula Blue at Mansell Raceway
31.10.16Josh Cook, leading M.G. driver in the British Touring Car Championship, guest drives in Formula Blue at the penultimate Branfield & Sons sponsored, 2 Counties Championship round, at Mansell raceway, Devon, on Oct 30th.
Having won the first heat, Cook qualified 7th on the grid for the Final despite having suffered a DNF in heat 3 with a “noisy” broken exhaust manifold. Unfortunately, he had insufficient time to “bed” in the gasket on the replacement part prior to the Final. Despite reaching 4th after the opening lap, he was forced to retire the following lap, as the noise became exessive, he was given a black flag and waved into the pits by the Clerk of Course. Meanwhile, it was Anthony Cleal and Duncan McLeod who shared the day at the penultimate round of the Club Championship. It is Cleal, however, who forges ahead in the overall lead, helped by the absence of Martin Wheeler, his previous main rival for the Championship. It is McLeod who now takes on the mantle !
Positions in the Club Championship for the Blue Masters group remain unchanged with Cleal ahead of McLeod and Kevin Ford.
Minimum points for McLeod allow him to reinforce his lead in the Blue Veteran section with Ford and David Goode next in line.
Goode and Ron Shone shared the points in the Blue Legend sub-class, although it is Goode who leads Shone with Kevin O’Neill chasing in 3rd place.
Cleal also heads the Blue Top Weight class, followed by McLeod. 3rd place is held by Duncan McLeod’s son Mitch, keeping it in the family.
In the Cadet Honda class a clean sweet on the day left Cameron Ross clear in the lead. Zak Styler, although 2nd on the day remains 3rd overall.
The Branfield & Sons sponsored 2 Counties Championship now moves to Clay Pigeon, in Dorset, on 13th November for the Final Round.
In with this round is also the Matthew Percy Memorial race, one of the most coveted trophy events in the Junior & Formula Blue calendar.

Wheeler closes down on Cleal in 2 Counties Club Champs
10.10.16At the 4th round of the 2 Counties Club Champs (sponsored by Branfield & Sons Builders) at the Clay Pigeon circuit, on October 9th, the lead in the Cadet Honda class continues in a deadlock. Thomas Cucurello-Yeomans and Cameron Ross shared the days’ points and carry the Championship forward in total deadlock with only 2 Rounds left.
Jake Calvert continued his dominance in Junior Blue, with a lights to flag result.
In Formula Blue, Martin Wheeler and Anthony Cleal raced the Final centimetres apart. Wheeler, won the race though Cleal achieved the fastest lap. In the process, Wheeler, closed the gap on Cleal at the front of the Club Championship to where only the drop option separates them. Notable absentees were Ian Branfield and Matthew Helps who gifted 3rd spot to Sam Dible in the process.
In the Blue Master section, Cleal takes the overall lead from Duncan McLeod.
It is, however, McLeod who holds the lead in the Blue Veteran group ahead of Kevin Ford.
In the Blue Legend sub-class, David Goode continues to hold the lead over Ron Shone.
Branfield’s absence from the Blue Top Weight group has allowed McLeod to take up second spot to chase Cleal, in the lead.
The Championship continues and moves on to the Mansell circuit on October 30th for the penultimate round of the year.

2 COUNTIES – RESULTS of Round 3 at Mansell Raceway 25th September
26.09.16In what was one of the largest entry lists for Formula Blue this year, some spectacular racing took place at Mansell Raceway. The front three in senior BLUE class achieved best lap times within 0.02 of each other. In the end, it was Martin Wheeler who stole the day, from Duncan McLeod and Anth Cleal. This result kept Cleal in the lead of the ‘open’ Championship by the narrowest of margins from Ian Branfield, who must be bitterly regretting missing this round as two of the front five had problems throughout the day.
In the BLUE Master group, it is McLeod who takes the lead in the Club Championships from Cleal. Both are on the same points with McLeods’s drop option marginally better. McLeod also takes the lead in the BLUE Veteran section, having wrestled the lead away from the non-attendee Kevin Ford.
David Goode increased his lead in the Blue Legends group over Ron shone. It was Robin Stoddart-Stones who stole the show in the racing but illness earlier in the year had placed him adrift in the Club Championships.
Cleal, by virtue of Branfields’s non-attendance, moved into the lead of the Top Weight section, albeit by the difference in the drop option points.
In the Junior BLUE class, Jake Calvert reasserted himself as the man to beat by taking the day and also increasing his club lead over Taylor Waldron.
The Cadet Honda front runners shared the day with Thomas Cucurello-Yeomans and Cameron Ross scoring 2 points each to leave them equal first in the Club Champs.
The next round will take place on 9th October at the Clay Pigeon Raceway.

Points accrued during the earlier S & B Automotive Academy Regional Championship were carried forward to the Grande Finals, on September 4th. In the Junior Blue class Taylor Waldron, last year’s number 3 , won both the Regionals and the Grande Finals to rank him as number 1. Jake Calvert, the current ‘0’ plate winner claimed 2nd overall.
In Formula Blue, Anthony Cleal went into the final weekend in the lead by the narrowest of margins, from Ian Branfield and Matt Helps. it was, however, Matt Helps who won the Grande Finals with Cleal 2nd and Branfield 4th. Once the points were totalled Anthony Cleal became the National Champion with Matt Helps 2nd and Branfield, who was last year’s Champion, 3rd.
