Newsletter        July 2024  v.3

We are now halfway through our 2024 championship, with three rounds of the six completed at Clay Pigeon on 14 July.

We have had some great racing despite smaller grids than we would have liked. We have 25 members so hopefully we can swell our numbers for the last three rounds.

This is a second newsletter for 2024, specifically for our 2CKC members as we will be asking for your opinions very soon.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR CHAMPIONSHIP LEADERS

Open Class             Dave Watts             and in 2nd Place       Anthony Cleal
Senior                     Callum Jobson                                      Mike Bell
Master                    Dave Watts                                           Max Gunter
Veteran                  Anthony Cleal                                        Steve Groves
Legend                   David Goode
Top Weight             Paul Alexander

Full results are now posted on the Planet Karting Website, a copy is being sent along with this newsletter, and they will be displayed at future rounds.
As you know, 2CKC this year are trialling a different results format:

  • Everyone is in the Open Class
  • Also each competitor competes in their age class as follows:
    • There is a new class for “Seniors” being 15 to 29
    • Masters (30 to 44)
    • Veteran (45 to 59)
    • Legend (over 60)
  • And, if over 90kg, any competitor is eligible to compete in the Top Weight Class.

We hope this brings new winners and opportunities, whilst ensuring that everyone is competing for two trophies (and a third for Top Weight).

Cadet and Junior Blue

Cadet                     Arther Way leads Devon Giles
Junior Blue              Alfie Lenton

It is a great sadness that we have not yet encouraged more juniors to these classes, and any assistance or ideas you can give will be welcome.

Our Next Rounds

8th September – Clay Pigeon
6th October – Forest Edge
10th November – Clay Pigeon  (including the Matthew Percy Memorial Trophy Race, for Junior  Blue & Formula Blue).

5 from 6 rounds to count towards the championship (i.e. one drop round).

The 6th round carries a 100 points non-attendance penalty which may not be dropped.
In the case of the Matthew Percy Memorial trophy race, the winner of this trophy will be decided by the lowest points score – by adding the ‘Final’ Start position and the Final Finish position together. (0 for a win, 2 for 2nd, 3 for 3rd etc). In the event of a tie, the higher finish position in the Final will decide.  (1st past the post Trophies will also be presented by the host club).

To be eligible to win the Matthew Percy Trophy, a driver must have competed in at least one round of the championship prior to this event.

Changes are afoot – 2025 Plans.

As you will know, significant changes continue to occur in the world of Karting.

This is an exciting and challenging period where some, but not all, circuits are transferring from MSUK to IKR (Independent). This is beyond our control. Whichever way we go our choice of circuits will be limited.
So we decided that for 2024 that 2CKC would remain MSUK, while the NKRA would continue to be IKR. This gives us the widest possible choice of circuits and dates for the year.

If you race in both championships, you have six different circuits for the year!

But we need to be making decisions for 2025.
Ideally 2CKC wish to focus on “local” circuits around the South West.
We know many members are uncomfortable with the constraints and costs that MSUK require, with some members voting with their feet. But MSUK does mean we can race at Clay Pigeon and Forest Edge.
If we go IKR, then we can race at Mansell or at circuits further afield such as Lydd. At present, Racing at Clay Pigeon would be Saturdays due to planning restrictions. The position with Landow is not clear at present. Or we may be able to join another Championship.

Please let us know your thoughts.
