GILES, READ, FOSTER, CLEAL, O’NEILL & MORTIMORE ARE THE 2022 CLASS WINNERS AFTER FINAL ROUND OF THE 2 COUNTIES CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP

Devon Giles adds the 2 Counties Cadet Honda Club Championship to his earlier NKRA win.
Rhys Read, in Junior BLUE, despite a hic-up in a heat with a pedal issue, performed faultlessly, ‘creaming’ his way through the (combined with mini-max) grid to take not only the win on the day but also the Club Championship. Mitchell Carpenter had one of his best races of the year, finishing 2nd.

Going into the last round the three racers at the front of the Formula BLUE grid were separated by only 4 points. One of these, Joey Foster, nearly shot himself in the foot, by entering late, resulting in a rear-of-grid start position for all heats. A daunting task with 23 entries! In the end, it was a faultless performance by David Watts, who secured not only pole position, but a clear-cut win. 2nd on the day, with a 4th place start and 2nd at the flag, was Stuart Gray. Anth Cleal, racing for most of the Final one-handed, due to a stripped throttle cable, and Kevin Ford shared 3rd place overall with 7 points. Joey Foster finished 3rd in the Final but 5th overall, once the grid start was factored in. This meant that Joey Foster wins the Club Championship from Anth Cleal by 3 points. Mike Bell also suffered a failed throttle cable in the heats and started down in 9th for the Final and had to work his way forward to a 6th place finish. He lost the chance of the top two Championship places but managed to stay on the podium with 3rd in the Championship.
Foster held on to his Championship lead in the Master sub-class. He finished 1 point ahead of Cleal who ended the year as runner-up in the Club Champs. Gray won the day moving himself up to 16th in the overall Championship. 2nd on the day, with a pole and 4th set of points, was Kevin Ford, who finished the year in 17th place. The last rostrum place was claimed by Steve Groves who outpointed Kevin O’Neill by 1 point and Paul Alexander by 2 points. Gray and Ford shared the win in the Blue Veteran section, but it was Cleal who took the title. He was a clear winner by 23 points from O’Neill, who finished a mere 1 point ahead of Groves.
Gray also won the day in the Blue Legends from John Hartshorne and Robin Stoddart-Stones. It is O’Neill, however, who takes the title from Chris Underhill and John Hartshorne. Rob Mortimore was dominant in the Blue Top Weight sub-class, with a pole-to-flag win, from Ron Shone and Tom Parker.
Thus a great year’s competition came to an end without any interruptions from Covid. The Two Counties also enjoyed its highest level of involved competitors for many years. The racers now clean, maintain and store their equipment in anticipation of another great year in 2023. However, the Championship year is not over ! Competitors will now make their way to Weymouth, on Saturday 26th November for the Presentation Evening and Ball. This year will be a stunner as the NKRA, who celebrates its 30th year anniversary, co-hosts with the 2 Counties Club, to put on a fantastic event for its loyal members.
