McLeod Magic at Mansell

In the penultimate round of the Two Counties Club Championship on 29th October at Mansell Raceway,  Ed Leader took a lights to flag finish in the Cadet Honda Class but remains in 7th position in the Championship standings.  The lead is currently shared by Charlie Vaughan and Joshua Whittington-Couch who drew upon their drop options to remain at the top of the list.
In the Formula Blue class and its various sub-classes, it was the McLeod family who showed the way to the flag.  Father, Duncan,  was peerless in his display of race craft evident during his front row to flag win.  Chasing him home were son Mitch and Jake Calvert.
Equally emphatic was Duncan’s performance in the Master, Veteran and Top Weight sections, where he has increased his lead going into the final round.
In the Master and Veteran section, it is Rob Mortimore and David Goode that lead the challenge.
In the Top Weight group, Jake Calvert splits Duncan McLeod from Mitch McLeod in the standings.
Notable by their absence from the grid were two drivers,  who by their own action and/or that of their teams’ comments on social media, had been belittling the class they were in. However, in their new class, these drivers made little or no impact on the competitive front end of the grid.  Thus confirming that invariably it is the caliber of the driver and /or his uncompetitive equipment which is usually the problem and not the class he is in.  More than making up for their departure were two drivers returning from ‘lay-offs’.   Martin Wheeler finished 4th in the final, having started back in 11th place after earthing problems in the heats.  Keith Wilson had flown in from Switzerland in order to race at this meeting and finished a creditable 7th on the track and 6th overall.

The last race of the Championship takes place in two weeks at the Clay Pigeon Raceway.  This race incorporates the Matt Percy Memorial Trophy Meeting.
