STUART GRAY WINS AT MANSELL

Back in action after a horrible Covid affected winter, Stuart Gray was finally able to travel south of the Scottish border. He was rewarded by a lovely weekend, where the sun filled the sky for both Saturday and Sunday, well worthy of the travel south. Then, to cap it all he had a stunning day gaining both pole and the eventual win in round 2 of the NKRA Blue Challenge. 2nd overall was David Watts recording opposite pole and 3rd in the Final. Anthony Cleal, the current number 1 finished 3rd with 6 points from a grid 4 start and a 2nd place finish. Russell O’Neill, having gained place 3 on the grid, and posted the fastest lap time of the weekend, suffered a second lap tyre puncture and had to retire from the Final.
In the Master sub-class, Gray once again scored minimum points from his pole and win. He was followed by Cleal on 5 points and Nigel Vickery on 8 points. It is Gray who also leads the Championship from O’Neill and Billy Thomas.
Gray also won the Veteran group, again from Cleal and Vickery. In the overall standings, Gray leads the field from David Waldron and Cleal.
The last of the age related sub-classes, Legend, was again won by Gray with pole and 1st over the line. He was followed by Kevin O’Neill on 4 points and David Goode on 6 points. It is Kevin O’Neill, however, who leads this section from Gray by virtue of O’Neill’s better drop option. Goode takes up 3rd place overall.
Billy Thomas won the last of the sub-groups, namely the Top weight group. He won the race from Pole! Behind, came Rob Mortimore with 4 points and Ron Shone on 6 points. Overall Thomas extends his lead with 0 points and a drop of 0 points. Second in the standings is Mortimore on 4 points with Ben Joseph on 5 points.
The class now has 2 weeks to recover and prepare for round 3 at Clay Pigeon, thereafter there is a 5 week lay off before round 4.
The Juniors have a slightly different timetable and will next be in action on Saturday, May 1st at the Clay Pigeon Circuit.
